Maharashtra Class 12 HSC result 20018: Facing all odds, students still score high marks

Mumbai: Students of Mumbai have scored high in the Class XII Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) board examinations this year, the results of which were declared on Wednesday. City junior colleges claimed they had secured 100 per cent results, with several students scoring above 90% in Science, Arts and Commerce stream.

Around 2,288 students of the city have scored over 90% in HSC board examinations held in February-March this year. Students said that exams in all three streams were challenging and they had not expected to score so well. Dhruv Shirpurkar, a physically-challenged student who scored 86% in Science said, “My teachers and friends at Vaze Kelkar College helped me attend lectures and understand the lessons. My parents have been supportive and I want to study Economics in the future.”

Family members of Shrikant Rathi, a visually-challenged student, used to read out notes to him so that he could memorise them. Rathi, who scored 88% in Arts, said, “It was difficult initially, as I could not gauge everything based on hearing. But then I began to understand the concepts and formed my answers. I am preparing for my Law entrance as I have a deep urge to study further.”

Faizan Khan, a student of Swami Vivekanand College, Chembur, would listen to audio recordings due to his visual impairment and scored high marks. Khan said, “I had to rely on recordings to understand lessons and memorise the study material. It was challenging as there is a lot of theory in Arts but I managed to study well due to the help of my teachers and friends.” Hiren Mistry who scored 88.46% despite weak financial conditions, said, “My father is a tailor and my mother is a housewife. It was difficult to fund my education but now I want to improve the financial conditions of my family.”

Marie Fernandes, Principal of St Andrew’s College, Bandra, said, “We are proud of the performance of our students as we have secured 100% results in Arts and Commerce stream. HSC board examination is a crucial platform which helps students to decide the course of their future career path and students are working hard at the grassroot level to perform well.”
