Woman, 2 sons drown in tank

Suicide due to debts suspected

A woman along with her two children allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a local tank at Bukkapatnam in Anantapur district on Monday. Their bodies were fished out on Tuesday.

According to the Kothacheruvu police, Rama Devi (28) of Bukkapatnam mandal headquarters married Krishna (32) of Penugonda mandal eight years ago. The couple had two sons Bablu (6) and Joshua (4). Five years ago, the couple migrated to Bengaluru as construction workers, owing to dwindling fortunes in agricultural work due to drought conditions.

Rama Devi came to her house at SC Colony in Bukkapatnam Friday night. She reportedly left the home on Monday around 7 a.m., along with her sons. Some locals told the police the trio were seen moving near the tank.

In this backdrop, the locals found three bodies floating in the tank on Tuesday morning, with their belongings, including footwear, baggage, found on the banks. The Kothacheruvu police reached the spot, fished out the bodies and sent them to the area hospital for autopsy. The police suspect financial problems and family disturbances could be the reason behind the tragedy. The woman’s husband reportedly ran into debts after venturing into a petty business. A case has been registered.
