Many local university teams have put together great seasons.

All of the attention is currently on Stetson’s baseball program, since the Hatters are coming off a tremendous season, complete with conference championship and postseason conference tournament title.

All of that has led to this coming weekend’s hosting of an NCAA Regional.

The Hatters’ current baseball squad is the latest, but hardly the only area university program to put together a stellar season. Here’s a look at some of the area’s better teams in the traditional “revenue sports.”

 

Baseball

• Stetson, 1984: Hatters were 46-13 overall.

• Stetson, 2000: 48-16 record.

• Stetson, 2001: 43-17 record, reached regional final.

• Stetson, 2011: 43-20, reached regional final.

• Bethune-Cookman, 2002: School-record 39 wins, first NCAA Regional win vs. FIU

• B-CU, 2017: 36-25, beat USF and Florida on same day in regional to reach regional final, where it lost a rematch to UF.

• Embry-Riddle, 2005: 53-10 record, regular-season conference championship, regional and super regional champs, NAIA World Series runner-up.

  

Softball

• Stetson, 2014: 39-14 record, conference champs, NCAA tournament win over UCF.

• B-CU, 2005: Received at-large NCAA bid, won regional in Gainesville, lost to Texas in super regional.

 

Football

• B-CU, 1973: 9-2 record, conference champs, first win over Florida A&M since 1952.

• B-CU, 2002: 11-2 with Allen Suber leading offense and Rashean Mathis leading defense. First FCS playoff berth.

 

Basketball

• ERAU men, 1999-2000: 31-7 record, conference champs, NAIA Division II national champs.

• ERAU men, 2014-15: 35-2 record, regular-season conference champs, postseason conference tournament champs, NAIA Final Four.

• B-CU men, 1967-68: 24-7 record, conference champs, reached NCAA Division II playoffs.

• B-CU men, 2010-11: 21-13, first MEAC regular-season championship, first NIT berth.

• Stetson men, 1974-75: 22-4, with season-ending win over FSU. Had 10-game win streak midseason.

• Stetson women, 2012-13: 24-9, conference champs, NCAA berth.

• Stetson women, 2013-14: 27-8, reached second round of Women’s NIT.
