Fire engulfs liquor store in Rotorua

Fire broke out at the Liquor Hut in Old Taupo

A Rotorua liquor store has been ravaged by fire overnight. 

Fire and Emergency got the first calls to the blaze at the Liquor Hut on Old Taupo Rd in Mangakakahi just before midnight on Tuesday.

When the first crews arrived the building was engulfed in flames. 

Three crews from Rotorua worked to extinguish the fire in the single storey building, Fire and Emergency northern communications shift manager Craig Dally said. 

They stayed on site until 4am on Wednesday. 

A fire investigator was also called to look into the cause of the blaze. 

There was no indication anyone was inside the building or it was suspicious at this stage, he said.
