Earl E. Greif, 82, of Orion, Ill., died Monday, May 28, 2018, in his home.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, Ill. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to the family.
Earl Edward Greif was born April 17, 1936, in Hopkinton, Iowa, to Emil and Josephine Gudenkauf Greif. He served in the U.S. Army, and married Velda Gragg on Feb. 10, 1962, in Moline. He was a welder at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, for 35 years, retiring in 1992, He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Church, was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed camping and doing repairs of all types.
Earl is survived by his wife of 56 years, Velda; four children and spouses, Edward and Debra Greif of Silvis, Ill., LaVonne and Randell Chase of Moline, Ill., Bernard and Hazel Greif of Rock Island, Ill., and Joyce Greif of Orion; two grandchildren, Anthony and Mindy Chase; and siblings, Teresa Stevens of Marion, Iowa, Jeannette Freeze of Monticello, Iowa, and Arnold Greif and his wife, Betty, of Central City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by six brothers.
