Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today sought a fortnight time from the farmers to waive off farm loan as promised by him in his party manifesto. Addressing a meeting of various farmers associations and Progressive farmers in Bengaluru today, he said, it was difficult to write off the farm loans in one go and the government would implement it in phases.
Mr Kumaraswamy said, the coalition government was farmer friendly. He said, AICC President Rahul Gandhi was keen to help the farmers and mitigate their financial problems. The Chief Minister said, he will also hold a meeting with Chairmen and other senior officials of nationalised banks about the farm loan situation in the respective banks.
Farmers representatives from 30 districts attended today's meeting in which BJP deputy leader in Karnataka Assembly Govind Karjol also participated. Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwar was also present.
