According to police, officers Richard Saraiva and John Ruggiero were patrolling in the area of Plymouth Avenue and Rodman Street around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday when a gray Chrysler Pacifica almost collided with them.

FALL RIVER — Two officers conducting a bike patrol were almost hit by a car, but turned the incident into two arrests on gun a drug charges.

According to police, officers Richard Saraiva and John Ruggiero were patrolling in the area of Plymouth Avenue and Rodman Street around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday when a gray Chrysler Pacifica almost collided with them. Stopping the vehicle, the officers identified the driver as Anbiorix Torres, 19, and the passenger as Neftaly Arroyo-Gomez, 18. Both men are known to police and Torres was identified as fleeing police within the past month during a traffic stop for not having a driver's license.

As the officers were speaking with Torres, Arroyo-Gomez fled from the car, clutching an item with his left arm near his waistline. Running towards the Stop & Shop on Rodman Street, multiple officers arrived to establish a perimeter in the area.

Officers observed Arroyo-Gomez running in the yard at 512 Plymouth Ave. and later into the residence, where he was apprehended. Officers checking the yard then located a 9mm pistol containing five bullets hidden beyond a section of vinyl siding.

While taking Torres into custody, officers observed a large quantity of marijuana, later determined to be 3.9 ounces, in a bag on the floor of the vehicle, along with several cellphones. Between the two men police also confiscated $1,569.

Arroyo-Gomez was charged with:
• Unlawful Carry/Possession of a Non-Large Capacity Firearm
• Unlawful Carry/Possess Firearm while Loaded in Public
• Possession of Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number
• Resisting Arrest
• Possess to Distribute Class D Drug
• Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle (outstanding warrant)

Torres was charged with:
• Unlawful Carry/Possession of a Non-Large Capacity Firearm
• Unlawful Carry/Possess Firearm while Loaded in Public
• Possession of Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number
• Operate a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked License
• Possess to Distribute Class D Drug
