An undertrial sitting inside a police van was allegedly shot at by a minor in north Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court on Tuesday afternoon, the police said. They said the attack was the fallout of a gang war between two rival groups of Rohini district.
“The district police staff and Special Cell sleuths apprehended a 15-year-old minor, who opened fire on an undertrial sitting inside a police van. The undertrial was brought to the court for a hearing from Rohtak by the Haryana Police,†said a senior police officer.
The police said the incident took place at gate number 2 of the court. Security personnel on the court premises rushed towards the police van after hearing the gunshot. A minor seen running with a countrymade weapon was chased and apprehend. The situation was brought under control and the injured undertrial, identified as Dinesh, was taken to a nearby hospital.
“The apprehended juvenile belongs to Rohtak district in Haryana. The pistol used by him has been seized,†said a police officer.
Dinesh, a resident of Karala village in Delhi, is an associate of wanted gangster Jitender alias Gogi. Dinesh was produced in court and then escorted back to the jail van, parked in the court complex, by the Haryana Police. A minor managed to approach the jail van and suddenly fired at Dinesh. The undertrial sustained an injury on the elbow.
The police said the shoot-out was the outcome of a rivalry between the Gogi and Sunil Tillu gangs.
The juvenile told the police during questioning that he was also involved in the murder of Monu Nepali, another associate of Gogi.
“The juvenile is an active member of the Sunil Tillu gang. He was assigned to kill Dinesh by one Amit Dabang, another active member of the gang,†said a police officer.
