eBay: 50p Peter Rabbit coin SOLD for £3,000 - do YOU have one of the 'rare' pieces?
EBAY is a great place to find rare coins like the 50p Peter Rabbit coin featuring the Beatrix Potter character. One has sold for £3,235, but are the coins really worth that value?
A Peter Rabbit 50p coin has sold online for a whopping £3,235.
The 2016 piece, which went into circulation two years ago, looks rather battered from the advertisement.
However, this hasn’t stopped the coin selling for a huge sum.
EBay seller “rjanorton1974” from Melton Mowbray sold the coin this morning.
But is the piece really worth such an enormous sum of cash?

The Beatrix Potter 50p coins have proven very popular among the public.
A number of the coins entered circulation, while coloured and silver proof coins were sold commemoratively by Royal Mint.
This 2016 coin features a portrait of Peter Rabbit, one of Beatrix Potter’s most famous characters.
Also released that year were Jemima Puddle-duck and Mrs Tiggy-winkle coins.
While silver proof versions of the coin are rather rare with a mintage of 15,000.

But how many of the coins or in normal circulation, such as the one sold today?
According to coin expert site Change Checker the 2016 Peter Rabbit coin is very common.
In fact, there are 9,600,000 of the coins in wallets and tills around the country.
It has been given a “1” on the websites “Scarcity Index”, making it the most common type of coin.
Another Rare Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit 50p coin has sold for £712 after bidding war.

The 50p piece features a portrait of Peter Rabbit and was minted in 2016.
The coin was sold as one lot along side a 2016 Tales of Jemima Puddleduck 50p coin.
A bidding war broke out over the items, and 19 bids were made on the piece by six bidders over all.
Another rare £2 coin is selling for £350 on eBay.
One of the most recent coins listed on the site is a “rare” £2, minted back in 2012 and featuring a Charles Dickens motif. It is listed for a pricey £350.
