Several trailers worth of items from a Mt. Pleasant-area construction site for a hotel have been recovered and returned to the owner.
A Harrison-based husband and wife are expected to be arraigned Friday in connection to a theft of trailers full of items from the site, and on drug charges.
The couple were arrested Monday and lodged in jail on charges related to the case, the Michigan State Police Mt. Pleasant Post said Wednesday in a news release.
“Troopers from the Mt. Pleasant Post received a tip from a citizen who knew of someone in possession of multiple trailer loads of items that had been stolen from the site of a hotel under construction in Mt. Pleasant over the last several months,” police said.
Further investigation led troopers to two residences in Harrison where search warrants were executed.
As a result of the search warrants, three 26-foot rental truck loads of stolen construction and hotel furnishing items, along with suspected crystal methamphetamine and marijuana were recovered from the residences, police said.
The construction items were returned to the owner on Tuesday, which included, mattresses and box springs, bathtubs, drywall, several hundred boards, toilets, armoires, screws, and many other construction materials.
The husband and wife were both employees of the construction company the items were stolen from; the company has not been named by police publicly.
The case remains under investigation, and additional charges are expected.
