Robert LeRoy Dietz Jr., 67, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 4, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Dietz; son, Robert B. (Erin) Dietz of Monticello, Iowa; daughter, Honna (Tony) Topping of Marion; loving mother, Ruth Dietz of Marion, Iowa; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tyler, Kaitlyn Topping and Beckett Dietz; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Dietz Sr.; and sister, Rose (Alex) Johnson.
He was born Dec. 10, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert L. and Ruth (Holmes) Dietz Sr., where he lived all of his life. On Jan. 1, 1975, Robert married Marie Fadley. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Robert joined the Cedar Rapids Post Office on March 3, 1973, and retired Nov. 1, 2008. He was a union member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 373, American Legion Post 298, Marion, Iowa, and Olivet Presbyterian Church.
Robert was a very loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He loved all of them very much. Robert was there for anyone who needed help. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Robert enjoyed hunting, camping and bowling. He had such a great sense of humor and he was a great storyteller of his mail route experiences. He will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the Hospice of Mercy team, doctors, chaplains and many volunteers who came to visit Robert.
A memorial fund has been established.
