Dakshina Kannada administration too declares holiday for schools

On account of the continuous rain, the district administration has declared a holiday for schools and pre-university colleges in Udupi district on Wednesday as the Meteorological Department has predicted widespread heavy rain.

Due to heavy rain, some houses in Kunjur and Majur hamlets near Kaup were inundated with rainwater.

According to Udupi Tahsildar, Pradeep Kurdekar, about 60 houses were damaged as trees fell on them in Udyavar, Kidiyoor, Kadekar and Ambalpady villages. Two houses were damaged as trees fell on them in Manipal. About 10 houses were damaged in other places in Udupi taluk due to trees falling on them, he said.

The total amount of damage due to rain in Udupi district on Tuesday was estimated at ₹ 16.69 lakh. This included ₹ 10.35 lakh in Udupi taluk, ₹ 4.09 lakh in Kaup taluk and ₹ 2.25 lakh in Karkala taluk.

The district administration of Dakshina Kannada has declared holiday for schools and PU colleges on Wednesday. The holiday follows heavy downpour the district received since Tuesday morning. Students were sent back home by Tuesday afternoon itself following directions from the authorities concerned.
