Chinese window opens to Central India

The Container Corporation of India (Concor) and the Krishnapatnam port launched a direct container rail service here on Tuesday to boost containerised exports and imports between Central India and China, Korea, Japan and South East Asia.

Competitive rates

The weekly direct service from Krishnapatnam to Nagpur will reduce transportation time from 80 hours on the road to 65 hours.

This is expected to boost exim trade through offering competitive freight rates to exporters and importers of Central India.

The inaugural train left from the Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal for the Inland Container Depot, Nagpur, with a full load of Maersk Line import containers.

Speaking on the occasion, port Chief Executive Officer Anil Yendluri said that the direct rail service would revolutionise exim dynamics for Central and East India as traders can now rationalise time and costs.

These connectivity partnerships are set to project the Krishnapatnam port as the most convenient and trade efficient gateway on the east coast periphery.

Nagpur has been chosen for this linkage as it is one of the most preferred industrial and commercial hubs with the ambitious International Cargo Hub and Airport (Mihan) project reinforcing its investment opportunities.

The new service has 45 wagons carrying 90 containers per trip.
