NEW DELHI: A special Delhi court on Wednesday directed
P Chidambaram to join investigations into corruption cases against him by June 5, after the former finance minister had approached the court on Wednesday seeking protection from any “coercive action” by the
Enforcement Directorate in the cases.
The court granted him interim protection but asked him to appear before the agency on June 5. “Accused is directed to join the investigation as and when called by the officers of directorate of enforcement.
However, till then, no coercive action shall be taken against him,” special judge O P
Saini observed in his order on Wednesday.
Chidambaram was summoned by the ED on Wednesday for questioning in connection with his role as the then FM in the
Aircel Maxis and INX Media probe but was given a fresh date for June 5 after his advocates appeared before the agency and requested for more time.
