New York

The New York Mets have placed right-hander Noah Syndergaard on the 10-day disabled list with a sore right index finger.

The move Tuesday is retroactive to May 26, and he likely will miss one start because of the strained ligament.

Syndergaard is 4-1 with a 3.06 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 642/3 innings as one of the Mets' aces, along with Jacob deGrom. Syndergaard last pitched Friday night in a loss at Atlanta.

The Mets now have 11 players on the DL, including such regulars as outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, third baseman Todd Frazier, and catcher Travis d'Arnaud.

Yankees 6, Astros 5 (10): Brett Gardner tied it with his second homer of the game, a one-out, two-run drive in the ninth inning, Gleyber Torres hit a winning single in the 10th and New York rallied to beat Houston. The Yankees won despite making five errors — including two by Torres at second base — for the first time since 2014. They also came up with a startling defensive play in the 10th when Aroldis Chapman threw a 100 mph fastball to the backstop that took a fortuitous carom to catcher Gary Sanchez, who threw out Tony Kemp at third base. Charlie Morton appeared set to win his 11th straight decision and become the American League's first eight-game winner. Manager A.J. Hinch chose not to use closer Ken Giles for the third straight day and sent Chris Devenski to the mound with a 5-3 lead for the bottom of the ninth. Miguel Anjudar walked, Torres struck out and Gardner drove a fastball just over a leaping George Springer at the right-field wall for his third home run in four games. Aaron Judge followed with a double and Giancarlo Stanton reached on a two-out infield single that ended an 0-for-16 slide before Devenski struck out Sanchez. Chapman (2-0) walked Kemp with two outs in the 10th, threw a wild pitch with Springer at the plate and nearly hurled another one. But Sanchez caught the pitch that ricocheted off the top of the low wall behind the plate and fired a perfect throw to Andujar for the tag. Andujar doubled against Brad Peacock (1-3) with two outs in the 10th, and Torres lined an opposite-field single to right. Andujar slid in as Springer's throw was wide to the first-base side, and Torres raised his hands and then his helmet after rounding first base. Pitcher CC Sabathia, Andujar and Sanchez also made errors in the Yankees' worst-fielding game since July 21, 2014, against Texas.

Red Sox 8, Blue Jays 3: Sandy Leon hit a home run and two doubles, Xander Bogaerts also homered and Rick Porcello took a three-hitter into the seventh inning, helping Boston beat Toronto and match the second-best start in franchise history. J.D. Martinez also had two of Boston's six doubles. The Red Sox (38-17) won for the eighth time in 10 games to maintain the best record in the major leagues and their best record through 55 games since 2002. Only the 1946 Boston team that started 42-13 with Ted Williams and Bobby Doerr returning from World War II had a better start. Porcello (7-2) allowed three runs, two earned, and five hits in 62/3 innings. Toronto loaded the bases against Hector Velazquez in the ninth, but Craig Kimbrel got the last two outs for his 17th save.

Indians 7, White Sox 3: Michael Brantley, Jose Ramirez and Jason Kipnis each hit a solo home run, and Cleveland beat Chicago. Brantley was 3-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 18 games, the longest active streak in the majors. He homered in the third and had an RBI single in the seventh. Ramirez hit his team-leading 16th home run in the fifth and drove in a run with a first-inning double. Kipnis homered in the eighth.

Nationals 3, Orioles 2: Bryce Harper hit his NL-leading 17th home run, Mark Reynolds added a solo shot and Washington beat Baltimore to extend its road winning streak to nine games. Harper finished with three hits, Reynolds scored twice and 19-year-old rookie Juan Soto had his first three-hit game for Washington.

Cubs 8, Pirates 6: Anthony Rizzo sparked a late rally with his ninth home run of the season as Chicago Cubs held off Pittsburgh. Rizzo doubled in the first inning and sent a solo shot off Edgar Santana (2-1) just over the railing of the Clemente Wall in right field to knot the game at 4. The Cubs then piled on against Pittsburgh's bullpen.

Angels 9, Tigers 2: Ian Kinsler hit a three-run homer, Luis Valbuena went deep twice and Los Angeles beat Detroit. Martin Maldonado added a two-run drive in the eighth inning.

Cardinals 6, Brewers 1: Harrison Bader, Matt Carpenter and Francisco Pena homered to back Michael Wacha as St. Louis beat Milwaukee. Wacha (6-1), who entered the game with a 2.17 ERA in May, walked four and struck out three, and combined with two relievers to limit the Brewers to three hits.
