One arrested with explosives in Birbhum

One person was arrested after the police acting on a tip-off recovered huge amount of explosives from Bahadurpur area of Nalhati block in Birbhum district sources said.

According to the police the huge amount of explosives included 50,000 detonators, 11,000 gelatin sticks and several sacks full of ammonium nitrate.

Anarul Sheikh the owner of the house where the white sacks full of explosives were unloaded from a truck was arrested, police said.

Birbhum SP N Sudheerkumar said though there were a number of stone quarries in the area detonators were not needed for the blasts.

“We are trying to find out the reason behind sending such huge amount of explosives and its source,” the SP said adding two persons who were unloading the materials from the trucks escaped after they were challenged by the police.

“We have seized two trucks and arrested a person,” he maintained adding “all angles are being investigated because Birbhum is a district bordering Jharkhand.
