Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana: MHADA plans to form its own special cells

It will cater to layout sanctioning related to redevelopment of old building approvals

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has planned to form three special cells in order to ease the work process pertaining to permissions related to building constructions and layouts.

The cells will specifically be formed for sanctioning layouts in stage one, clearing the building proposal and finally a separate cell will be made for giving permissions under Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana (PMAY) scheme.

The MHADA officials said that this new cell would cater to layout sanctioning, sanctioning related to building plan approvals, redevelopment of old MHADA buildings and permissions related to building constructed under PMAY scheme.

The cells will specifically be formed for sanctioning layouts in stage one, clearing the building proposal and finally a separate cell will be made for giving permissions under Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana scheme

“This new cell will be operational from June 1 onwards. These cells were planned in order to fasten the process of building plan approvals,” said a MHADA official.

This step comes after the recent notification from the state government which stated that MHADA would be the Special Planning Authority for redevelopment and building construction projects.

“Earlier, we had to take permissions from the civic body for related sanctioning of building projects, Floor Space Index (FSI) and layout plans. Due to this, it would take a longer time to receive approvals for important projects and thereby get stuck,” added the official.

The officials said it took at least 10 years for sanctioning of redevelopment projects at DN Nagar area by the civic body.  “We do not want the projects to remain stuck due to non approval of building layout. As MHADA has been appointed as a SPA for redevelopment projects, we hope to speed up the pace of building plan approvals,” added the official. The officials said the cell would be operational from June 1 onwards once a MHADA official is appointed to govern the three separate cells of the housing authority.
