Man kills sister-in-law in argument over their affair

A 33-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her brother-in-law in a cottage at Aksa Beach on Monday afternoon. The accused was traced to Gujarat and is currently admitted to a local hospital, and will be placed under arrest soon.

According to the Malwani police, the deceased, Indu Tatad, lived with her husband in Malad and was allegedly having an extramarital affair with the accused, Dinesh Tatad (30).

A police officer said that on Monday afternoon, Indu went to meet Dinesh at a resort at Aksa beach. An argument erupted between them, during which Dinesh allegedly stabbed her to death.

“Dinesh left the cottage in the afternoon, and around 6 p.m., one of the staff members at the resort went to their cottage to ask if they would be checking out. He found Indu lying in a pool of blood, after which he alerted his superiors, who in turn called the police station,” the officer said.

A team was sent to the resort and Indu was rushed to Siddharth Hospital in Goregaon, where she was declared dead before admission. The police subsequently registered a case of murder against unknown persons and initiated inquiries into the matter.

Cellular location

The police said that they identified Dinesh using the details entered by him in the resort’s register and started tracking his cell phone.

“Cellular location mapping indicated that he was travelling towards Gujarat. We contacted the Gujarat Police, who intercepted him in Navsari. He had sustained some injuries during his scuffle with Indu, and was subsequently admitted to the government hospital in Navsari for treatment,” the police officer said.

The police will arrest Dinesh as soon as he is discharged from the hospital, after which he will be brought to Mumbai.

Senior police inspector Deepak Phatangare, Malwani police station, said, “Dinesh had recently discovered that Indu was also having an affair with someone else, and this had angered him. He called Indu to meet him at the resort on Monday and confronted her about it. This led to a heated argument and Dinesh stabbed her multiple times before fleeing the scene.”

Dinesh has been booked for murder under the Indian Penal Code and the police are conducting further inquiries into the matter.
