The Demon Is Dead: Dodge Builds The Last 840 HP Challenger

It looks like Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has finally found an exorcist as the company has built the final Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.

The last model was made earlier today at the Brampton Assembly Plant in Canada and it marks the end for one of the most iconic muscle cars of the modern era.

The Demon was introduced a little over a year ago at the 2017 New York Auto Show. It was met with great fanfare as Dodge claimed the car was the world’s fastest production model with a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 2.3 seconds. The Demon also boasted the world’s fastest quarter-mile time for a production car with a run of 9.65 seconds at 140 mph (225 km/h).

This impressive performance was due to the Demon’s supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine that produces up to 840 hp (626 kW / 851 PS) and 770 lb-ft (1,042 Nm) of torque. These are some truly impressive numbers and they make the Challenger SRT Hellcat – which has 707 hp (527 kW / 716 PS) and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) – look relatively tame in comparison.

Since the Challenger SRT Demon was designed to be a limited edition halo model, Dodge limited to car to one production year and 3,300 units. Many of the models have already been sold but there’s still a chance to purchase the last one.

As announced earlier this year, Dodge and Barrett-Jackson have joined forces to offer the “the ultimate last chance” package at the Barrett-Jackson Northeast auction in Connecticut next month. The package includes the final Challenger SRT Demon as well as the last Viper. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the United Way and the pairing of the two final production models is expected to drive bidders crazy.

Before the cars go up for auction, the final Demon will travel to an upfit center for final of assembly. There it will be equipped with an exclusive Viper Red paint job, drag radial tires and special badging.
