After pleading ‘homelessness’ in Supreme Court in a bid to hold on to a government allotted bungalow for two more years, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, dared the media to ‘find him a place’. Akhilesh had a ready retort for reporters questioning him about his reluctance to move out of his government accomodation. The SP chief and his father Mulayam Singh Yadav have both moved Supreme Court against an order asking former CMs to vacate their official bungalows.

“We are ready to vacate but we need more time. Both netaji (Mulayam Singh) and I, do not have houses to live in Lucknow. If you could find a place for us, let us know,” the former CM snapped. “I think you are deflecting issues,” he added. Akhilesh however said, “There is an unintended consequence of Supreme Court order that I have started the process of constructing my own house on Vikramaditya Marg behind the CM’s official residence at 5, Kali Das Marg. My new house will share its boundary with the CM’s official residence.’’   In his lea before Supreme Court, Mulayam Singh asked for time citing his age and ill-health. Akhilesh listed security and his children’s education as reasons why he should be allowed to hang on to the bungalow. Another former chief minister, Mayawati, has ‘turned’ her vast five-acre, 10-bedroom bungalow in Lucknow into a memorial for mentor and BSP founder Kanshiram. A few days ago, a new board was put up outside her bungalow reading : ‘Shri Kanshi Ramji Yaadgaar Vishram Sthal’.
