Supreme Court won’t stay law entrance test results

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to stay the declaration of the results of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2018, scheduled for May 31.

A Vacation Bench of Justices L. Nageswara Rao and Mohan M. Shantanagoudar asked the grievance redress committee to submit its report on June 6. The committee sought more time to look into the representations from students about glitches during the test held on May 13.

The court rejected the petitioners’ contention that the test be conducted afresh. Over 50,000 candidates had appeared for the exam for admissions to 19 national law colleges. The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), with the aid of private firm M/s Sify Technologies Ltd., conducted the test.

On May 25, the NUALS informed the court that it had set up a two-member panel, led by Justice M.R. Hariharan Nair, a former judge of the Kerala High Court, to address the grievances of the students. Students have highlighted various issues, including power cuts, slow biometric verification, blank screens, frequent resetting and hanging of computer systems, server shutdown and difficulties in moving from one question to another.
