Three Sandwich schools were the recipients of literacy grants from Altrusa International of DeKalb/Sycamore on May 16 at Kishwaukee Country Club in DeKalb.
Altrusa is a service organization that supports the improvement of the community through volunteer work, contributions and fundraising with an emphasis on literacy.
Teresa Cameron from Herman E. Dummer School, Monica Sartori from Lynn G. Haskin School and Drew Sterkel (in place of Missy Hester) from Prairie View School each accepted a check for $400. These grants will be used to provide books for students as well as support materials for the One School, One Book reading campaigns.
