Ross Jefferson, president and CEO of Discover Halifax says that around $1 billion of direct spending happens in Halifax annually as a result of tourism.

He also adds that numbers are already looking positive for the 2018 tourism year.

Jefferson says 2017 was a banner year, and 2018 is shaping up to be even better:

“This year we’re actually tranding ahead,” said Jefferson. “Heading in to the busy season, we’ve got a really exciting season this year particularly for conventions with the brand new centre opening up, we’ve got some of the largest conventions we’ve ever been able to host.”

Jefferson says Halifax has a lot to offer, and the completion of the Nova Centre should help drive numbers up.

Over the past five years tourism in Halifax has seen a steady increase, and Jefferson says that trend is expected to continue.
