Former Michigan State defensive end Cassius Peat has committed to Virginia, according to a report from 247Sports.
Peat has played at two JUCO schools, and committed from Scottsdale Community College. He started his career at Michigan State in 2015, and redshirted, and was not offered his spot back when he tried to re-enroll in 2017.
Peat has also played for Pima Community College. And he also was, at different times, reportedly committed to both UCLA and Arizona State.
But Peat ends up at Virginia, and will be a sorely needed part of the defensive line rotation that has been worn thin by the suspensions and subsequent transfers of Juwan Moye and Steven Wright. Then just a couple weeks ago, John Kirven and James Trucilla announced their retirement from the sport due to medical reasons.
UVa recently brought in Ohio State graduate transfer Dylan Thompson to bolster the defensive line. Peat is the most recent transfer addition that will be expected to assist right away.
The 21-year-old is listed at 6-foot-4 and 280 pounds. He was the No. 4 DE in JUCO according to 247Sports. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
