Police stations across Himachal Pradesh won't be bound by jurisdiction anymore and will register complaints irrespective of where a particular incident took place, the state's police chief S R Mardi said today.
To further improve policing, Himachal Pradesh's director general of police (DGP) said the gap between lower and higher officers must be bridged and officers' meetings must be held once every three to four months.
Any person in Himachal can now register a complaint at any police station and the scanned copy of the same will be sent immediately to the concerned SHO, Mardi said at a media interaction during the police officers meet of the North Range here.
The role of the police is very sensitive and difficult in society, he said.
The working conditions for police are tough but we still need to improve our behaviour, he added.
Mardi acknowledged that crime in the state has risen but said the rate of successfully solving cases has also improved.
From January till now, 84 proclaimed offenders were apprehended from Himachal, These included some from other states, Mardi said.
During this period, 1,687 persons indulging in illegal mining were fined and Rs 70 lakh was recovered from them deposited in the state's coffers.
Properties worth Rs 13 crore were seized under the Forest Act and 104 cases were registered against culprits.
An additional Rs 4.7 crore was collected as fine from those breaking traffic laws.
According to Mardi, the state police would soon set up a cyber cell with a laboratory in Shimla under the guidance of the director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi. The Centre has already released Rs 1.50 crore for the project, the state's top cop said.
As part of ongoing efforts to help people, Mardi said apps like Gudiya, Hoshiar and Shakti have been launched while lost and missing reports can now be lodged using Whatsapp.
We have installed CCTV's at interstate borders and important inter sections, introduced e-challans for traffic violations and started self-defence training programme for school girls in the state, Mardi said.
