Saints head to the tribunal over Carlisle ban

St Kilda will head to the tribunal on Tuesday night to contest the two-match ban handed to star defender Jake Carlisle for his hit on Richmond spearhead Jack Riewoldt.

Riewoldt was concussed and played no further part in the game following the first-quarter incident where Carlisle made contact with Riewoldt's head as he attempted to spoil.

Match review officer Michael Christian assessed the incident as careless conduct with high impact to the head.

It's believed the Saints will challenge the impact, likely to claim that it should have been graded as medium impact and not high.

The club does not risk any further suspension to Carlisle if they're unsuccessful at the tribunal, but a loss will mean a payment of $10,000 which will fall under the soft cap.
