CEDAR RAPIDS — Planned Parenthood Action Fund has endorsed state Rep. Abby Finkenauer in Iowa’s 1st District.

Finkenauer, a Dubuque Democrat, is in a four-way race for the nomination to face Republican Rep. Rod Blum in November. The primary is June 5.

The action fund describes itself as a nonpartisan organization that supports candidates who are steadfast in their support for women’s health, health care access and reproductive rights, with more than 10 million members nationwide.

“In the state Legislature, Abby has a long track record of standing up and being a strong voice defending a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions,” said Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “We need fighters like Abby in Congress to stand up against GOP leadership’s attacks on our health care system, and to ensure all women have access to safe reproductive care.”

This endorsement continues the campaign’s momentum in the final week of the primary. It has received endorsements from several labor unions as well as Emily’s List, NARAL and End Citizens United.
