Eatala turns emotional consoling bereaved families

Minister orders police, RTC to inquire into mishap

Finance Minister Eatala Rajender turned emotional and tears filled his eyes when one of the victims of the Chenjerla road mishap asked him about the condition of his wife.

The Minister went around meeting the bereaved relatives and the injured persons in different hospitals in the town on Tuesday. One of the injured persons Jayaprakash asked the Minister the condition of his wife and recalled that his wife Subhashini β€” teacher in a private school in Gopalpur in Hanamkonda β€” had forcibly occupied the window seat on the right side of the bus. β€œThe lorry hit her side of the bus and she collapsed in my hands. How is she now,” he asked the Minister, who turned emotional and could not muster courage to tell the victim that his wife had died.

The Minister also felt very sorry after seeing the wailing of the wife of a contract lecturer Hariprasad, who was killed in the accident. The couple were married just six months ago.

Learning of the accident, the Minister, who was camping in Karimnagar town, cancelled all his official programmes and rushed to the accident spot and then visited the hospitals where the injured were undergoing treatment. He instructed the hospital officials to provide proper medicare to all the injured persons.

At the government hospital, the Minister visited the mortuary and ensured the post-mortem was conducted on all the dead and that mortal remains were handed over to the bereaved families and taken to their destination on ambulances. Expressing shock and grief at the accident, he said that a total of 51 passengers, including bus crew, were travelling in the bus when the mishap took place.

Inquiry ordered

The Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies said that he had instructed the police and RTC officials to conduct an inquiry into the accident which claimed seven lives and injured 26 others in Chenjerla village of Manakondur mandal on Tuesday. Stating that the government had planned to convert the Karimnagar to Warangal road into four-lane, he said that the road works were delayed due to land acquisition and added that they would identify the accident spots and take appropriate measures to reduce the accidents on the road.
