Quality education message on wheels

Teachers launch awareness campaign to promote enrolment in State-run schools

In a bid to attract the government’s attention towards revitalising State-run schools to attract more students to them, the Telangana State United Teachers Federation (TSUTF) has embarked on a ‘jeep jatha’ to spread awareness on the need to strengthen government schools and ensure free, comprehensive and quality education for all children.

The TSUTF’s initiative in spearheading the campaign is aimed at mobilising public opinion for affirmative action to reinvigorate government schools through a slew of measures like introduction of nursery sections and English medium pre-primary classes.

Braving heat-wave conditions, members of the TSUTF vigorously conducted the jeep jatha in Koyachelka, Chimmapudi and various other villages in Raghunadhapalem mandal on the inaugural day of the campaign christened “Vidya Parirakshana Jatha” on Tuesday.

Teachers owing allegiance to the TSUTF distributed pamphlets to the villagers, seeking their cooperation in increasing enrolment of children in government schools, checking the dropout rate and strengthening the schools.

Through the pamphlets, the TSUTF members highlighted features of the government schools such as instruction by well-qualified teachers, provision of free education, textbooks, uniforms and midday meal with a non-commercial motive.

The awareness campaign is aimed at bringing into sharp focus the need for introduction of nursery sections and English medium education at pre-primary level in the government schools in tune with parents’ aspirations, says TSUTF district president G.V. Nagamalleswara Rao.

A collective effort on the part of the government and all the stakeholders is essential to ensure improvement of physical infrastructure facilities, appointment of adequate teaching and non-teaching staff and enrolment of children in the State-run schools, he insists.

The jeep jatha will be held in Bonakal and Chintakani mandals on Wednesday.
