Bhopal: In wake of proposed farmers’ stir, the government is mulling over severing mobile and internet services in sensitive and affected areas if protest went out of control. The 10-day Kisan Andolan is all set to begin across the state beginning June 1.
In a bid to quell the agitation and make sure that it does not take a violent turn, the government representatives are holding talks with several farmers’ associations. Government is also making political and farmer leaders to fill a bond promising maintaining good behaviour during the agitation.
Proposed visit of AICC national president Rahul Gandhi to Mandsaur during the farmers’ protest is also keeping administration on edge. He is scheduled to visit Mandsaur on June 6 to pay homage to six slain farmers who were killed in the police firing last year.
Police and administration are maintaining tight vigil in sensitive Malwa and Nimar regions. The farmers here are not getting goof price of their farm produce due to bumper harvest. Earlier, during caste conflicts reported on and after April 2, the government had cut internet services in the districts of Morena, Gwalior, Sagar and others to check spread of riots. The government is considering taking similar measures during farmers’ protests if situation demanded.
Protest likely to hit milk, vegetable supply
The supplies of milk, vegetables, fruits and other products to cities and towns are likely to be affected during the ‘Gram Bandi’ protest planned from June 1-10.
