Former President George H.W. Bush said he regrets missing this year's Memorial Day parade in Kennebunkport as he remained hospitalized due to low blood pressure.
"Very much regret missing the Memorial Day parade today in Kennebunkport, and am forever grateful not only to those patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice for our Nation -- but also the Gold Star families whose heritage is imbued with their honor and heroism," Bush tweeted.
His condition had not changed as of Monday night, his spokesman said.
The 93-year-old was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford on Sunday after he experienced low blood pressure and fatigue. A spokesman said Bush would likely be in the hospital for a few days for observation.
The 41st president tweeted for the first time Monday since his hospitalization on Sunday.
His hospitalization has caused him to miss his tradition of attending the local Memorial Day parade.
Bush arrived in Kennebunkport last week, about a month after the death of his wife of 73 years.
Bush was in the hospital for several days after his wife's death for treatment of an infection that spread to his blood.
He has spent part of every summer in Maine since childhood, with the exception of the time he served as a naval aviator during World War II.
Bush served as president from 1989 to 1993.
He turns 94 on June 12.
