Little Caesars employee Heriberto Feliciano heard sobbing, panicking on 911 call in aftermath of shooting.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A Holly Hill pizza store employee made a desperate 911 call begging for help after fatally shooting a masked man the employee said attacked him.

Heriberto Feliciano told the dispatcher he was closing up the Little Caesars restaurant late Saturday night when he was struck with a large piece of wood.

“Please, please hurry up,” Feliciano said before breaking down into sobs. “Please help me; I think he’s dying.”

The dispatcher asked if Feliciano could start CPR on the man, identified Tuesday as 53-year-old Jesse L. Coggins of Greenville, North Carolina.

Holly Hill Police Chief Steve Aldrich said Coggins has no local arrest history, and it’s unknown how long Coggins had been in the area.

“I don’t want to get close to him,” Feliciano said. “He tried to stab me with a pair of scissors. He hit me in the face with a big piece of wood.”

The dispatcher asked Feliciano, 28, of Holly Hill, if the masked man had tried to rob him.

“I have no clue. I just stepped out the door, and he hit me in the face,” Feliciano said.

He said he needed to call his mother, but the dispatcher told him not to hang up and to calm down.

“Ma’am, I can’t. I’m gonna go to jail for this,” Feliciano said.

Feliciano couldn’t be immediately reached Tuesday afternoon. Aldrich said he does not foresee any charges against Feliciano.

Police said Feliciano, who has a concealed-carry permit, shot Coggins a few times at close range.

In a second 911 call, a woman who said she witnessed the shooting told the dispatcher the man was dead.

“He unloaded his whole clip into him,” the woman said. “I seen blood fly into the air like a (expletive) watermelon getting chopped.”

The woman also told the dispatcher she heard an argument before the shooting. Aldrich said that couldn’t be substantiated.

Coggins died at Halifax Health Medical Center, Holly Hill police said.
