LUDHIANA: The residents continued to grapple with hot weather as the day temperature remained above 40°C on Monday. However, the Met department officials have given the residents some reason to cheer. The Met department predicts weather disturbance in the next two days.
"On Tuesday and Wednesday, there are chances of light rainfall of about 10 mm. The showers will bring down the temperature," said Surender Paul, director Met department Chandigarh.

According to the Met department, the day temperature in the city on Monday was recorded at 43.5 °C, which is three degrees more than normal. On Saturday, the day temperature in the city was highest this season at 44.6 °C, which was equal to the day temperature on May 19, 2016, when the same was recorded highest for May in the last five years.

Even as the day temperature in city was higher than normal, it was less than other major cities of Punjab. The day temperature in Amritsar and Patiala were recorded at 43.6 °C and 43.7 °C. The minimum night temperature in Ludhiana was also on a higher side and was recorded at 26 °C, which is two degrees more than normal.

In the meantime, the Met department website predicts a gradual decrease in day temperature to 41°C till Wednesday. The Met department predicts night temperature to rise to 28 °C till the same day.

The residents, meanwhile, are finding it hard to battle the hot conditions prevailing in the city. "The hot weather is beyond our tolerance level. In fact, I haven't seen such heat wave in Ludhiana in the last many years. I have not moved out of my home during the day for the last three days. I try to do my business-related work early morning or during the evening hours," said Manoj Kumar, a trader from Civil Lines.

The students are also complaining about the heat wave. "The heat is intolerable. A person can suffer sun stroke if he goes out unprotected during the day. I prefer to study in my air-conditioned room. I try not to venture out during the day," said Jaspreet Singh, a student of BRS Nagar.
