The temporary lounge at the terminal was cleared when crack suddenly appeared around a steel beam, Metro reported.
Travellers at the airport started "panicking" and many passengers took to Twitter to express their shock.
A large crack appeared in the wall of a temporary departure gate.
One of the passengers Andrea Atherton wrote on Twitter about the lack of communication with regard to the incident.
'Been stood for 20 minutes where the temporary floors sound like they are collapsing. Finally evacuated outside. Trying to go on my cruise. Not great communication Manchester airport.'
