Three girls did the Kochi proud when the Central Board of Secondary Education declared the results of Class X Exams on Tuesday afternoon.

While Sreelakshmi G. of Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakara, emerged joint national topper with three others scoring 499 marks, she was closely followed by Theresa Soni of Rajagiri Christu Jayanthi Public School, Kakkanad, and Ammu Mariam Anil of Rajagiri Public School, Kalamassery, with 498 and 497 marks respectively, who also found themselves in the list of national toppers in the second and third place.

Interestingly, all three were attending medical entrance coaching classes when the news reached their homes.

Sreelakshmi was away in Pala whereas the other two were in the same institute at Thevara when the news broke.

“I was totally surprised about the result though the exams were easier than the model exams. There were no special preparations as such for the exams other than covering the topics on time,” said Theresa, who just dropped two marks in English.

The aim now is pursue medicine after doing biology-maths, she said before returning to the celebrations organised by parents Soni P.N., employed with Cisco Systems, and Nelin Mathew, a faculty member with the Cusat School of Engineering, at their home at Padamugal.

Ammu was equally surprised about the results though she was also expectant of scoring high marks. She just dropped one mark in English and two in Mathematics.

Clear plans

“I didn’t follow any particular routine as part of preparations but had clear plans for cracking the exam,” she said without elaborating further from her home at Perandoor Road in Kaloor.

Born to Sera Oommen, gynaecologist at Women and Children Hospital at Mattancherry, and Anil C.P, anaesthetist at Little Flower Hospital at Angamaly, Ammu aims at pursuing scientific research.
