The draw of lots for admission under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in elementary and matriculation schools in Madurai district on Monday happened largely free of any complaints.

The admissions happened in 157 matriculation and 302 nursery and primary schools, in which a total of 5,895 seats were available at the entry level.

N. Marimuthu, Chief Educational Officer, said that the School Education department did not receive any complaint on the admission process. “We are consolidating the data received from all the schools. By Tuesday, we will get to know how many admissions have been made,” he said.

A few parents were, however, disappointed that their children were denied admission after getting chosen since they were more than four years old. At least one parent alleged that her child was denied admission because she chose not to get a community certificate as she did not believe in the caste system.
