Beauty with a cause

Model-actor, Meghana Laxman, participated in a beauty pageant to say that women look beautiful even with scars

Meghana Laxman dreams of making it big in Kannada films. She has already bagged quite a few films in her kitty and is awaiting their release with baited breath.

The girl, who started off by walking the ramp and modelling, took to contesting in a beauty pageant just to "get a feel of that world too."

So off she went to participate in Miss Super Globe India 2017 and was also crowned Miss Photogenic India 2018, which was held in Kozhikode.

Citing the other reason for her to participate in the pageant, she says, "There is a huge scar that I have on my body which is visible. The idea was to send a message across to other women that no matter what scars you have — internal or external — if you have the confidence and feel good and appreciate the way you look and love yourself, you are and can be beautiful and a winner in your own way. There is no need to hide your scars," says the model-actor.

The young artiste points out the major difference between cinema and beauty pageants. "In films you get to have retakes and also get the time to learn your dialogues. Not so in beauty pageants. Everything is spontaneous — you have to talk and be alert to answer smartly. There are no pre-written scripts, dialogues or re-takes in pageants."

Meghana is now geared up for the release of Ira, directed by Hari Krishna (currently doing 8mm with Jaggesh). She plays the second lead in the film. Her next, again under production is Fun, directed by Akash Gubbi, where she plays the lead.

Right now Ms Photogenic reveals she has offers from the Malayalam and Tamil film industries. "I hope to polish my acting skills a bit more before I branch out," smiles Meghana.
