A former Orange City police officer is accused of trying to extort a Georgia woman for nude photos by threatening to kill a woman and her 5-year-old brother and rape her sister, officials said.
Joshua David Fancher, 25, was arrested on a felony warrant Tuesday afternoon by Volusia County deputies, sheriff's spokesman Andrew Gant said in a release.
Fancher, who was sworn in on Dec. 21, 2017, resigned Tuesday morning, Orange City police Lt. Jason Sampsell said.
The DeLand resident began threatening the woman via social media messages on Jan. 27, according to the Lowndes County warrant.
Over about five months, Fancher threatened to kill the woman and her 5-year-old brother and rape her sister, according to the warrant.
The threats, which started on Instagram, said Fancher would harm Kozlowski and her family if the woman didn't send nude photos, Gant said. Fancher would later send her threatening text messages, officials said.
Fancher was taken into custody at the Orange County Police Department and booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail where he's held without bail, Gant said.
Sampsell said the crimes Fancher is accused of came as a surprise to the department.
