Gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer’s “Get it Done: Better Skills, Better Jobs for Michigan” plan outlines how she would improve the state’s economy, create better jobs, and increase household incomes.

The plan, released Tuesday, establishes the Michigan Reconnect Program to increase skill and job training, creates a scholarship program making the first two years of college debt-free, links veterans to apprenticeship programs, adopts a buy American and buy Michigan agenda, and helps small businesses to attract and retain talent.

Whitmer said every Michigander deserves a path to a high-wage skill, economic opportunity, and an income that supports their family. “Right now Michigan’s ‘economic comeback’ excludes a lot of small business owners, the working class, women and people of color,” said Whimter. “At the same time, we are short on the skilled workforce that was once our hallmark. That’s why this jobs plan focuses on raising household incomes by expanding education and skills training, investing in our infrastructure, aggressively pursuing economic development and supporting small business growth so that everyone has a path to a good job and a secure future.”
