The City of Saskatoon has selected its next city manager.

Interim city manager Jeff Jorgenson has been chosen to stay in the job permanently.

"This is a long awaited announcement," said Mayor Charlie Clark. "It's one of the most important decisions that council can make."

Jorgenson replaces former city manager Murray Totland, who announced his plans to step down from the job in September.

Jorgenson has been a mainstay at City Hall since 1996, previously acting as utility services manager and manager of roadways.

He's known for his work on the development of the South Circle Drive Bridge and reducing the risk of sanitary sewer backups across the city.

The selection was made after a nation-wide search for candidates, receiving 67 applications.
