A New Mexico woman was charged Sunday night for being intoxicated in the middle of Rehoboth Avenue and resisting arrest by Rehoboth Beach police, according to a department release.

At about 11:30 p.m., police were alerted to a report of an intoxicated person in the middle of Rehoboth Avenue, according to the release.

Officers located 25-year-old Hannah Cain of Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the middle of the roadway and observed that traffic was stopping to avoid striking her, police said.

When officers attempted to remove Cain from the roadway, she refused. Cain was placed under arrest and struggled against officers attempting to place her in handcuffs and into a patrol car for transport to the police department, according to the release.

No one was injured as a result of Cain's resistance.

Cain was arrested and charged with one count of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and being drunk on a highway, police said.

Cain was committed to Sussex Correction Institution on $501 secured bail.
