Drivers missing after DND mishap

Bike rider may have fallen into the Yamuna river

In an apparent case of a road accident, a heavily damaged cruiser bike and a car was found on the DND flyway on Sunday, police said. The rider of the two-wheeler and the owner of the cars are missing.

The police suspect that the rider might have fallen into the Yamuna. However, till late on Sunday evening they have not being able to trace the persons.

The vehicle which allegedly hit the bike was found parked near the accident spot.

“A PCR call was received at 1 a.m. informing about an accident on the DND flyway. We found a cruiser bike near the railing of the bridge and a car parked near it. The rear side of the two-wheeler and the front portion of the car was damaged. A few plastic jersey barriers kept along the road were also damaged in the accident. The owners were traced based on the number plates of both the vehicles,” said a senior police officer.

“During initial investigation, it was found that the bike was registered in the name of one Anshuman Puri, a resident of K-block in Sarita Vihar. He is a singer and producer of a music company. The police reached his house on Sunday and found that the main door was locked. However, no missing complaint has been registered at any police station in Delhi,” said a senior police officer.

The car is registered in the name of one Bhappa Singh, a resident of Goyla Dairy near Dwarka, who currently stays in Canada. Mr. Singh’s house was locked too, but the neighbours told the police that his daughter and son-in-law used to drive his car. They were, however, clueless regarding their whereabouts, the police said.

“Based on the preliminary investigations, a case of causing death due to negligence has been registered at Sunlight Colony police station. A team from the NDRF and the Delhi boat club has been deployed to look for the body of the bike rider in the Yamuna. Footages of the CCTV cameras installed at the flyway are also being scanned,” said DCP (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal.
