Civic body to tap rainwater from private buildings

The Chennai Corporation will harvest rainwater from rooftops of private buildings, including homes and shops, linking them with waterbodies in the neighbourhoods of developed parts of the city. Buildings in Purasawalkam, Saidapet, Ayanavaram, Royapuram and Mylapore are expected to be linked to waterbodies in first phase.

The civic body will start commissioning facilities to collect rainwater from rooftops of private buildings. Temple tanks of Gangadeeswarar Koil in Purasawalkam, Virupaacheeswarar Koil in Mylapore, Biragi Madam Venkatesa Perumal Koil on General Muthiah Mudali street in Royapuram, Kasi Viswanathar Koil on Krishnappa tank street, Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal, Peyazhvar Koil in Saidapet, Kandasamy and Aathimottaiamman Koil, Kuyapettai, Chenna Malleswarar Chenna Kesavaperumal Koil on Devaraja Mudali street, Angala Parameswari Koil in Royapuram, Ekambareswarar Koil on Thangasalai Ward 59, Kalyana Varadaraja Perumal Koil in Kaladipet, Mallikeswarar Koil on Lingi Chetty Street, Thiruvetteswarar Koil, Thiruvettewaran Pettai, Sengazhuneeer Pillaiyar Koil, Sengazhuneeer Pillaiyar Koil street, Katchaleeswarar Koil and Kasi Viswanathasamy Koil, Ayanavaram will be rejuvenated, officials said.
