IAS officer Shashank Goel’s son shot dead in Istanbul

Senior IAS officer Shashank Goel’s son Shubham Goel was reportedly shot dead by a group of armed robbers in Istanbul of Turkey on May 24. He was on a holiday with his friend Sudhanshu, a native of Noida.

Shubham’s mortal remains were brought to New Delhi on Saturday and were taken to Roorkee in Uttarakhand where the last rites were performed on Sunday.

Mr Goel rushed to New Delhi after learning of his son’s death and officials of the External Affairs Ministry assisted him in transporting the body to India.

Shubham came to India on April 28 to attend a family wedding and on his way back to California, USA, he made a quick holiday plan to Turkey with his friend, said an IAS officer, who spoke to Mr Goel over the phone on Sunday evening.

Shubham, who completed his graduation from Amity University in Noida, was working as Deputy Manager at Federal Bank of America, the official said.

Mr Goel told the officer that on April 24, a group of robbers confronted Shubham and his friend Sudhanshu and demanded cash and other valuables they were carrying.

“When the boy refused to meet their demands, the gang stabbed and shot him, resulting in his instant death,” the officer said, seeking anonymity.

Mr Goel is principal secretary (labour) to the Telangana government.
