Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three-nation visit to Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore from tomorrow.
During his five-day visit from May 29th to June 2nd, the Prime Minister will hold delegation level talks with the leadership of the three countries, on matters of mutual interest.
This will be Prime Minister’s first official visit to Indonesia and second official visit to Singapore.
The visit assumes significance in the light of India’s thrust on “Act East” policy under which New Delhi desires to enhance bilateral relationship with the 10-member ASEAN grouping. In the first leg of his visit, Mr Modi will arrive in Indonesia tomorrow. He will hold discussions with Indonesia President Joko Widodo on ways to deepen maritime cooperation, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.
Boosting trade and enhancing connectivity will be another focus area of Modi’s visit to Indonesia.
On the occasion, both countries are likely to sign a pact on defence cooperation. As part of the visit, the Prime Minister will address a forum of top businessmen and Indian diaspora in Indonesia. On 31st, Prime Minister will leave for Singapore and en route, he will have a brief stopover in Malaysia to meet the newly elected Prime Minister, Dr. Mahathir Mohammad. In Singapore, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with his counterpart Lee Hsien Loong and deliver the key-note address at the 17th Shangri-la dialogue.
He is the first Indian Prime Minister who has been invited to deliver key note address at the forum.
