The final week of the 2018 prep track season is upon us, concluding Saturday with the MHSAA state finals.

On Tuesday afternoon Alma College is playing host to Mid-Michigan Meet of Champions, an annual event that started in the late 1970s and continues on through to today.

Field events start at 4:30 p.m. while running events start at 5:15 p.m.

The meet will take place at Alma College’s Bahlke Field and is free to the public to attend.

On paper this meet brings in the top prep track and field athletes from the mid-Michigan area. Times and distances are compiled for every athlete from every meet this season and the top-eight relays and sprinters and invited to this meet, Moreover, the top-12 distance runners and field event athletes also take part in the meet.

In terms of what to watch for, well every event brings in some top-tier talent.

On the girls side Farwell’s Jenna Odykirk has had a phenomenal junior campaign as she’s won nearly every single sprint (100, 200, 400) that she has competed in in 2018. Beal City freshman Angela Kotecki has also been great as she’s done the same. If these two square off in the 100, 200 or 400 it should be a great race.

On the boys side the shot put and discus should be equally entertaining as four of the best throwers in the entire state will be competing against one another.

In short Tuesday’s Meet of Champions will have something for everyone and we hope to see you there.

Note: The Morning Sun would like to thank Alma College for hosting this annual event. It would also like to thank Ithaca track coach Gene Lebron for setting up the meet on Athletic.net and thank officials Jill Sandro and Jim Gillis.
