State BJP president Ajay Bhatt on Monday attacked the Congress on Vishwasghat Diwas, observed by the party on May 26, saying that the name of the rival party’s campaign was apt, as it has betrayed people.

“They (Congress) have done vishwasghat (betrayal) with the people of the country and their campaign name is apt for the party,” said Bhatt, after his return to Dehradun from Tharali, where he campaigned for his party for a fortnight. He was addressing media persons on completion of four-year rule of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.

Voting for the Tharali bypoll was held on Monday.

Citing positive response of the people in Tharali, Bhatt said every big or small village he visited in the constituency, people commended the PM and his initiatives to bring development in the country. “Have you seen any PM who interacts with people to know whether they have benefitted with the central schemes or not? Our national president Amit Shah too communicates with locals to get the ground report of the policies, schemes and projects under ‘Sampark for Samarthan Abhiyan’,” he said.

Talking about the urban local body elections, he said, “The party and the government are ready to hold urban local body elections. The delay (in holding the polls) is because the matter is presented before the judiciary.”

Praising the centre government, he said the Modi government has not taken debt of even a single dollar and has repaid the debt to Iran recently. He also mentioned how the centre managed to bring back Rs 83,000 crore non-performing assets from companies and also took charge of unauthorized properties worth Rs 3500 crore.

He also talked about the Ayushman Bharat Yojna, which will be launched in Uttarakhand on August 15. “While the target under the project is to provide Rs 5 lakh cover to 10 crore families, but all 25 lakh families in Uttarakhand will benefit from it,” he added.

Uttarakhand Congress president Pritam Singh reacted, “Modiji kehtey hain acche din aayeingey lekin tareekh nahi batayeingey (Modiji says good days will come, but he won’t share the date).”

“Modiji has made it difficult for a common man to live. Prices of petrol and common commodities are at ever high rate. How will common man survive? And BJP is celebrating four years at the centre. Why?” he asked.
