Jeep Renegade facelift to be unveiled in September 2018

28th May 2018 12:55 pm

Refreshed Jeep Renegade to get updates inside and out, along with a 48V mild hybrid variant.

As reported by us earlier, Jeep will update its smallest model, the Renegade sometime later this year.  A few leaked images surfaced a few months ago hinted at the expected changes on the SUV.

Exterior revisions on the Renegade facelift will include revised LED daytime running lights and other such subtle tweaks, while the car’s rugged and retro-styling, typical of Jeep, is dead certainty.

Inside, a larger infotainment screen will take the place of the current 6.5-inch unit, absorbing the buttons and controls previously surrounding it. The new unit is still housed in the shaped surround and takes up no more space than the complete previous unit.

As confirmed by Jeep earlier to our sister magazine Autocar UK, the refreshed Renegade is likely to come with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine with a 48V mild hybrid system in the future. This tech will be seen on most Jeep models sold in the European market.

A Jeep spokesman confirmed that the updated Renegade would arrive in September 2018, following a motor show debut, likely in the first half in 2019.

The Renegade, Jeep's smallest SUV, was first unveiled back in 2014 and is sold in multiple international markets more or less unchanged.

This SUV is likely to be Jeep's next locally assembled product for India and as reported by us earlier, India will get the refreshed model.

Under the hood, the India-bound Renegade is likely to come with a 140hp, 2.0-litre diesel and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine with full-time four-wheel-drive as optional, and two-wheel-drive as standard. Key rivals to the Renegade would be the Hyundai Creta, Renault’s Captur and the upcoming Nissan Kicks.

Expect competitive pricing for the Renegade as Jeep is already in talks with suppliers to increase local content ahead of a launch.
