Uber promotes India head Amit Jain as APAC Regional GM

Amit Jain, who led Uber’s Indian operations for about three years, will now be responsible for the APAC region, which includes Australia, New Zealand, and North Asia, in addition to India and South Asia.

US-based taxi aggregator Uber has promoted its India head and South Asia president Amit Jain as Regional General Manager for Asia Pacific region.

Jain, who led Uber’s Indian operations for about three years, will now be responsible for the APAC region, which includes Australia, New Zealand, and North Asia, in addition to India and South Asia.

"I am really excited to be stepping up to lead Uber's ride-sharing operations in APAC. We have amazing people doing phenomenal work, here at Uber, and I am excited to work with them to grow and expand our business in APAC," said Jain.

Jain’s successor, according to company spokespersons, will be chosen from list of internal candidates. Till that time, the former Rent.com President will continue to lead Uber’s India and South Asia operations. Uber spokespersons declined to specify when the SoftBank-backed company is expected to announce the new incoming India and South Asia head.

Uber rival Ola also forayed to Australia in January this year and recently expanded its operations to three Australian cities including Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Canberra. It also currently has operations in cities like Perth, Sydney, and Melbourne with plans to expand operations to cities like Adelaide, Darwin and Hobart in coming months.
