WAYNESBORO - A van became a fixture in a downtown Waynesboro storefront Sunday night, but luckily no one was hurt.

According to Waynesboro Police Cpl. C.J. Cross, the van ended up in the store due to a car crash late Sunday night.

Around 11:30 p.m., a Nissan Pathfinder was trying to make a lefthand turn onto Main Street and the van became the casualty, according to Cross. The van tried to veer out of the way and ended up hitting a light pole and then went into the Tim Spear's Music City building on the corner of Arch Avenue and Main Street, according to police.

"It would have been minor damage if the van didn't careen into the building," he said.

The Nissan Pathfinder had minimal damage, but the van had major damage and is most likely a total loss, Cross said.

According to Cross, the roads were dry and the van was not at fault. The driver of the Nissan Pathfinder faces a failure to yield the right of way on a left turn.

As for the music store, Cross said the owner estimated about $100,000 in damages to the building and equipment inside. The light pole will also need to be repaired or replaced.

This is not the first accident in that intersection seen this weekend. According to Cross, there was an overturned vehicle in the same intersection Friday night, where a driver was attempting a left turn.

"That intersection has seen two major accidents in just a matter of days," he said.
